In recent years there has been a rapid increase in the number of US Imported utilities gracing Australian roads. Many owners have seen the increased towing ability and load capacity of the US utilities as invaluable in comparison to smaller vehicles. This is particularly the case when towing a large caravan across long distances. Many owners also enjoy the strong performance of the six cylinder or V8 engines on offer.
RAM became the first of the US Imported utility models to sell through official channels in Australia in 2015. Previously badged as the Dodge RAM, the initial models available in Australia were the 2500 and the 3500. The smaller 1500 model became officially available in Australia in 2017. The RAM models have proven to be the biggest seller of all the US utility models nationally, with 17,721 sold new Australia between 2015 and 2022. There are numerous variants within the range including Express, Laramie, Warlock and the high performance TRX.
The Chevrolet Silverado was first manufactured in 1999 taking its name from the its predecessor - the C/Ks top level trim. The Silverado was first officially sold new in Australia in 2018. There are numerous variants available within the Silverado range including Custom Sport, Midnight Edition, ZR2 and LTZ Premium.
The Ford F-Series was first manufactured in 1948 and is the highest selling vehicle in the world. The Ford F-Series was sold new in Australia as either an F-100, F-150 or F-250 until 1993. The F150 will again be available shortly through Ford dealers as either an XLT or Lariat and will be powered by the 3.5 Litre V6 Ecoboost engine.
The Toyota Tundra is the only one of the four featured US utility vehicles that hasn’t been officially sold new in Australia.
